The Vineyard or Why I Love Australians
While it wasn't the same without Kristy there, we still had a really awesome time. It was very relaxing and we had terrific weather. The kids squashed the adults in the annual beach volleyball competition, and received a lovely breakfast (breakfast of champions, if you will) in return for their efforts. HAHAHAHAHA!
Toward the end of the week, we went to go see the Vineyard Sound again! I was skeptical and feared disappointment, because last yera's group had been so good and so cute, I felt they couldn't possible live up to it. I was so wrong. They were great! Really cute, funny, and solid - the harmonies were so tight. And they did some really great songs - a lot of memorable moments: Devin Donaldson's "Midnight Train to Georgia" with the trio in the background, Mr. Ft. Lauderdale on "Insomniac", Ed - the rock n roll guy - bustin' it out to "Somebody to Love", Sam (the Aussie) singing "Vincent" so simple and sweet with his eyes closed, Mr. Dave Peth look-alike on "Downeaster Alexa", an awesome rendition of "Southern Cross", and a crazy "Zombie Jamboree". And it was good to see that the kid with no personality grew a personality and really took on a leadership position with the group. I bought their new cd, though it's last year's group. If ya wanna hear it, let me know - it rocks! Because they rock!
Then the day before we left we went - agggghhhhh! - PARASAILING! We dubbed Friday "Extreme Sports Day" and went to play with the Aussies who run MV Ocean Sports. Bless they're beautiful hearts. Al and I went together and Christy and Casey went next. It was so cool! It was really gentle and not nearly as intense - or "extreme", if you will - as I thought it would be. But it was so nice. The parachute is attached to the boat, and then once they hook you on and release the line you just fly up off the back of the boat into the air over the ocean. It's amazing! The view up there is incredible! And you could even hear the Aussies' Caribbean reggae music coming from the boat. They slowed the boat down and we floated down to the water (Al! AL! The water is getting clser!!), and they dipped us in, like up to our waists, and pulled us along for a while, then the hit the gas and we shot right back up in the air, lifted right out of the water. It was so much fun! And then the ensuing boat ride with the Aussies was just as pleasant (Luke and Jesse, was it Al? . . . "Are you girls over the age of 12?" . . . Just ONE straight answer, 30 seconds of clarity is all I want!)And we had the most perfect day to do it - clear blue skies, a nice wind, and beautiful scenery - all around!

I Love British People
We just got back from an absolutely fantastic vacation on the Vineyard, but there's so much to write about, I'm going to do it in reverse order:
Last night, my mom and I went to go see Sting at Darien Lake - OH MY GOD! He was incredible. His voice is even more amazing live than on cd (I really hate it when you go to a concert of a band/performer that you love and go, "Ooh. You sound much better on cd, once your mistakes and impurities of sound have been digitaly removed." Not so with Sting. He's a musician in the truest sense of the word.) Each song was different than the version published on cd, and his band was really hot. And he had this one backup singer who totally rocked ("Whenever I Say Your Name" was incredible"). I was a little concerned at first because the concert started off a little slow; he started with the remix of "Send Your Love" (I prefer the regular version) and a couple songs I didn't know, and didn't particularly like. But then it really picked up and he played all my favorites. "This War" was very cool, and very subtle but powerful in its message; he did "Never Coming Home" (awesome guitar part), "Fragile", "Fields of Gold" (beautiful), "Dead Man's Rope", "Englishman in NY" (which I'd never heard before - it's the coolest song!),"Sacred Love", the coolest, longest version of "Roxanne" EVER, and probably a ton more that I'm forgetting. He then came on for a three-song encore with "Desert Rose", "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You", and "Every Breath You Take." He then came on AGAIN to do "A Thousand Years". It was a fabulous show! Right up there next to last summer's Our Lady Peace concert for the best concert I've ever been to. I had so much fun!
